Keeps Coming

Poems just keep coming
when I think this is it
still another one comes.
There is so much to write
there is so much to say
sixteen poems in one day.
Yet it doesn’t stop there
for it is now here
another poem topples out
ready to be written about.
Fun! Did I say this was fun?
My writing will never be done
I have been confessing
this is the Lord’s blessing
I never want to be done
writing is so much fun
there might come a time
when many of them won’t rhyme
But I don’t care
it will not impair
a new way could emerge
then there would be a surge
of newness in my writing
and oh how exciting.

God is in Control

God is in control
in this I stroll
along His path
avoiding undue wrath
He takes good care of me
I have joy and I’m free
to do as I chose
in Him, I can’t lose
I feel more than okay
~
When to Him I do pray
He sets my sights on something new
there is always something new to do
with His Word in my hand
I will walk the land
with His Sword at my side
I will not hide
I firmly know
to Him I can always go

Love Trumps All *1 Tim. 1:3-11

*Watch your talk
*The Law is good, so don’t abuse it
~~~
5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. 7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.
Hanukkah Story
Way back in ancient time,
There was a heinous crime,
When Greece had taken the land.
It was by Antiochus IV’s hand,
The Temple was destroyed.
The horror he employed.
For he did choose,
To destroy the Jews.
~
This awful Syrian King,
Pagan ways he did bring.
He was just plain cruel,
In how he did rule.
He made such a mess.
The Jews were in distress.
The pagans did try to demolish
God’s Word, but it did not abolish.
~
Idol worship came about,
Pushing God’s way out.
No longer could Jew’s worship,
For the Temple they did strip.
Stolen was the silver and gold,
Much more could be told.
They desecrated the alter.
Wanting the Jews to falter.
~
The sacrifice of a pig,
On the alter was big!
Jews were kept from their holy tradition
Made to bow in dishonorable submission.
This was the most horrible situation!
Rituals were of a new formation.
This was the last straw,
What happened to God’s Law!
~
Then up rose a Maccabee,
To set the Jewish people free.
For now help was on the way,
The Maccabee leader did not delay.
The battle was hard and long.
These mighty men were strong.
They fought day and night.
They did not run in fright.
~
Eventually God’s people won.
The war was finally done.
There was no doubt,
What the next step was about.
The Temple was first on the list,
For it was surely missed.
In gathering a large crew,
They knew exactly what to do.
~
They began with sanctuary purification,
In order to have Temple rededication.
They did more than clean.
It looked so serene.
Then what did they find?
It needed to be shined.
The menorah was found,
Happiness did abound.
~
There was no hesitation,
For this Temple rededication.
The menorah was set on the table,
It was now standing quite stable.
At once oil was poured in.
Day one would now begin.
However, the big problem at hand,
Was not enough oil for the lampstand.
But the lamp did burn bright.
All through the night,
And into the next day,
The flame did not go away.
Much to their surprise,
The light did arise.
At the end of the eighth day,
More oil was brought their way.
~
A miracle was had,
God’s people were glad.
God did renew His people’s hope.
They were more than able to cope.
God’s people did rejoice.
Praise went up as one voice.
Able now to worship Almighty God,
With all glory, praise, and laud.
~
Faith was renewed in the land,
because of God’s mighty hand.
So now we remember,
This wonder in December.
Each and every year,
We think of God and cheer.
The Temple was cleansed and consecrated
With great joy this should be celebrated.
~
And yet,
Don’t forget.
The reason
For the season.
God has given,
a gift from heaven.
O Hanukkah
O Hanukkah, O Hanukkah,
Come light the menorah,
It’s a time to soar ah.
~
As we gather around,
May Your grace abound.
In each heart here today,
This is what I pray.
~
We come to have fun,
And we thank You for Your Son.
So, let us rejoice and be glad,
For all the miracles to be had.
~
We know they all come from You,
For it is rightly and true.
Again and again we see,
It’s Your hand that sets us free.
~
All we need to do is ask.
Hello! This is not a big task.
He waits for us to say,
We need help on this day.
~
His hand is opened wide.
Why not get on and ride?
He is all we ever need,
If we would only heed.
~
His Word is true and good,
His people have understood,
That God is gracious and great.
Do we need to worry about our fate?
~
He will protect us forever,
Because He is wise and clever.
His love for us never ends,
We see it, by what He sends.
~
So, come along on this day,
To shout a big Hooray!
Don’t wait til May!
My Lord
To my Lord
whom I’ve adored.
My life I gave
for You to save.
You, I have sought.
You have brought
me to a greater height
what a beautiful sight.
I have wanted to know
the right way to go.
You took me
so I could see
the reality
of Your beauty.
I don’t have to be perfect
to be one of Your elect.
It is through grace I’m saved
because the Lord, He paved
the way for all to go.
This we need to know.
In this we can stand firm
we need not squirm.
No need for wavering
for in His savoring
Word we can rest
God gives us His best.
Controversies *Titus 3
9 But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. 10 Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. 11 You may be sure that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.
Love
Lord, How I love you
be honored in all I do
rid me of childish ways
as I go through the days
with You at my side
I need not hide
may I be as swift as a fawn
or as smooth as a swan
though I’m the size of a beagle
I can soar like an eagle
I’ll be as clever as a fox
not be closed in like a box
So today
have Your way
may I not walk in strife
be glorified in my life
