Be careful. Be aware. Lies and deception lurk at every corner; around every bend. What looks and sounds truthful can be a pack of lies through the mouth of someone you really do not know. The problem here was that the deceivers looked and sounded authentic. There is only one way – yes, one way to know for sure whether someone is telling truth or lies, and that is to go before the Lord God and ask Him to reveal to you whether or not what is said or done is truth. God will let you know. God is for us and not against us. If we ask Him He will let us know. He wants us to do what’s right and to walk in His truth. Even the wisest of people can be deceived. Satan is the Master Deceiver. As Scripture says, “Satan goes to and fro throughout the earth looking for someone to devour.” But we need not worry or fear. “The battle is Mine,” says the Lord. Truth will always eventually be found out, because truth prevails over darkness.

Three days later Joshua found out the men they made an agreement with lied and deceived them. It was too late. The oath that the leaders had made with the deceivers was sworn by the Name of the Lord, God of Israel. This oath could not be broken. However, the deceivers and their whole community were put under a curse. They were no longer free. They became wood cutters and water carriers for Israel. The deceivers were still in fear of Israel, so they agreed to the terms.

Every sin has a consequence. Lesson learned: Pray first about a situation before making a decision.  Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
